
Event Info
The event is specifically designed for pilots who have basic cross-country experience but are new to competition flying. Tasks will be set with safety as the primary consideration, taking into account weather conditions and pilot skill levels. Experienced mentors will guide participants through all aspects of competition flying, including: - Task planning and strategy - Weather interpretation - Safe decision-making in the air - Navigation and GPS usage - Competition rules and scoring systems Each day will conclude with a detailed task analysis session where pilots can share their experiences, learn from each other, and receive valuable feedback from seasoned competitors. This competition serves as an ideal stepping stone for pilots looking to transition from recreational flying to the competitive paragliding scene in a supportive and educational environment.
Location Details
As XCmag describes it - "Consistently brilliant flying weather, stunning routes over knife-edged ridges and limestone walls" Chabre is an excellent location for organizing competitions. Our take-off area is large enough to accommodate 15-20 pilots ready for take-off simultaneously. We have two main landings, each the size of multiple football fields. One of these landings is conveniently located in the middle of our campsite, where the headquarters will be situated. The Chabre area diverse paragliding opportunities. The mountains in the immediate vicinity range from approximately 1300 meters to 1600 meters, with the usual cloud base between 2000 and 3500 meters. This provides great potential for cross-country flying. A two-hour flight beneath the wing will take you to the main Alps, where the mountains are much larger and the views are breathtaking. This area is a mix of mountains and relatively flat terrain, although the flats are not completely flat when you drive around the valley. However, they do appear flat when viewed from 3000m at the cloud base. The area has wide valleys with not so much valley breeze on most days. There are vast fields for landings as far as the eye can see, ensuring relaxed flying with plenty of easy landing options within gliding distance. The local aerology can be quite complex if you descend low, but it is generally forgiving, as there is not much valley flow or turbulence in most places. Don't worry, we have created a video explaining it. Chabre's take-off faces southeast and sits at an altitude of 1336 meters. The ridge extends from east to west, starting at the town of Laragne-Montéglin and stretching for 15.8km. Month of August tends to be the best time of the year to fly here, with wide, smooth yet still strong thermals with usually high cloud base and limited rainfall.

Registration Details
PAYMENT DETAILS: Will be sent out through e-mail. Entry fee must be paid in full. All bank transfer charges must be covered by the participant. Missing funds will be collected in cash at HQ on registration. Your place at the competition is not confirmed until we have received your payment. The Pilot List shows the current status of your registration. Approved pilots will be invited to pay for the competition. Selection is based on an algorithm that considers many factors, including but not exclusive to, early registration, past attendance, the glider type you fly, WPRS and pilot experience. The organizers decision is final. The entry fee includes: • T-Shirt of the competition. • All transportation, shuttle buses to the take-off from HQ, all retrievals. • Downloading of the track logs, calculating and displaying of the results • Prizegiving party for the pilots, including food and certain amount of free drinks. • Most advanced Flymaster Live Tracking available at the time of the competition. REQUIRED BY YOU All Pilots must hold the following: ♦ An FAI Sporting Licence ♦ Minimum IPPI 4 ♦ French Competing pilots must hold the French Brevet Pilote confirmé. ♦ Medical/Travel insurance ♦ Third party liability insurance (usually from your National Organisation) ♦ A mobile phone ♦ Recently repacked reserve parachute ♦ Helmet, certified for paragliding use ♦ Harness with certified back protection ♦ 2M Radio If you do not have ALL of the above you will NOT be permitted to participate.
